Description

Theory and practice session on safe manual handling within you work area. This session will relate directly to the manual handling tasks that you undertake daily.

Target audience
  • Anyone at University of Cambridge Department of Physics involved in moving or otherwise handling heavy or bulky objects that could cause injury (e.g. back pain) if handled badly
  • Further details regarding eligibility criteria are available
Prerequisites

You need to be physically fit enough to do the particular handling required. If you have any pre-existings injuries or conditions, please let the trainer know at the start of the event.

Objectives

By the end of the session, participants should be able to: • Explain what “manual handling” means • Describe how manual handling can cause injuries • Recognize good handling technique for their work area and activities • List the principles for controlling manual handling risks • Apply these principles to the practical situations in their workplace

To enable Physics staff and students to identify risks to themselves from manual handling and use correct techniques in their workplace

Notes

Please wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows easy movement, with flat /stout shoes (no flip flops or high heels).

One session of two hours
