UIS: Workshop new Finished 10:30 - 11:30 UIS Online Microsoft Teams 4

This one hour workshop is for people who are either new to an Office application or for more experienced users who wonder if there is a better approach to how they are currently completing their work. We don't promise solutions for every problem but we will work with you using your files to explore if we can suggest a more efficient way to achieve results.

When you book, in the Special Requirements field, please enter a description of what you want to discuss and, if relevant, have a copy of your own files available so we can test some ideas. Please anonymise the data if it is sensitive or personal.

PLEASE NOTE The Bioinformatics Team are presently teaching as many courses live online, with tutors available to help you work through the course material on a personal copy of the course environment. We aim to simulate the classroom experience as closely as possible, with opportunities for one-to-one discussion with tutors and a focus on interactivity throughout.

This bootcamp provides an in depth look at statistical analyses using R.

Day 1 aims to introduce R as a tool for statistics and graphics, with the main aim being to become comfortable with the R environment. As well as introducing core R language concepts, this course also provides the basics of using the Tidyverse for data manipulation, and ggplot for plotting. It will focus on entering and manipulating data in R and producing simple graphs.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are already comfortable working in R and using the tidyverse package, you might find that you can skip Friday’s training session. Please review the pre-requisites section below for further information.

Day 2-6 (half days) will focus on the statistical possibilities of R, covering from experimental design to analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. Ample time will be given to participants to practise different type of analysis and interact with the trainers to discuss their statistical problems.

  • Learn about Teams Live Events
  • Practice schedulling and delivering a Live Event. Please have a short PowerPoint and one other application ready to demonstrate, e.g a web site with video content

This compulsory course will equip you with the skills required to manage the research information you will need to gather throughout your graduate course, as well as the publications you will produce yourself. It will also help you enhance your online research profile and measure the impact of research.

  • This training will be made available on Moodle on 4th August 2020. To attend this course, please book Session 1.

There is also an optional virtual drop-in session on Zoom available if you want to discuss anything raised in the course with the trainer, please book Session 2 if you want to attend.
