Are you organising an event with a larger audience, and considering using Teams? Webinars are ideal for business and educational purposes, such as training sessions, demonstrations, virtual conferences, and academic lectures. Confused over the various types of webinars? You may be aware of Live Events (soon to be updated to Town Halls) as an alternative to this course on Webinars; Live Events have a more structured delivery style and require an individual to take the role of producer to advance the next slide. Webinars are similar to a Teams meeting and are more intuitive to use. Teams Webinars typically involve a combination of audio and visual elements where the presenters share their video feed, give presentations, or other multimedia content, while participants can ask questions, provide feedback, and participate in discussions through chat, Q&A or other interactive features such as breakout rooms. This course will give you the opportunity to learn how to mitigate technical problems on the day, and to practise managing your content before you go live! Both organisers and presenters will find this course useful.
The course is taught using Microsoft Teams and you must have the Teams desktop installed on your computer to participate. Please Note: When you book on this course, on your booking confirmation page, click on Add to Calendar to start the process to import the course appointment into your calendar. This contains the link to the MS Teams course meeting under Joining Instructions that you will use to join on the day of the course.

This is a classroom version of the General Ledger 2 Course held at Greenwich House - All delegates will need to bring a laptop (docking stations, monitors, external keyboard and mice will be available in the room) Please note - there is no parking available at Greenwich House. The Madingley Park and Ride is a 15-minute walk and the Universal Bus stops on Madingley Road. Tea and coffee will be provided during the course, lunch is not provided. There is a café at Greenwich House where you can purchase lunch. You are also welcome to bring lunch with you. You can eat your own food in the café where there are also some microwaves available for your use. We can make fridge space available if required. This course provides users the opportunity to run General Ledger reports and how to interpret them when managing departmental funds. |

This course gives an introduction to linear mixed effects models, also called multi-level models or hierarchical models, for the purposes of using them in your own research or studies. We emphasise the practical skills and key concepts needed to work with these models, using applied examples and real datasets. After completing the course, you should have:

We love a plan! In our Introduction to Public Engagement course, we introduced you to planning using a logic model. In this practical session, we’ll use this tool in exercises that will allow you to think about why you want to engage, the outcomes and impact you want to achieve, who you want to engage with and how to reach them. We’ll look at how to run your project efficiently and how you might evaluate to learn and evidence your success. We’ll also consider the places you run events in, the resources you might need, tips on event planning and how you can make your engagement more inclusive. You don’t need to come with a plan, we’ll start with hypothetical challenges to spark thoughts and ideas and share learning together. The course will be run by members of the Public Engagement team - Lucinda Spokes, Selen Etingu, Diogo Gomes and Claudia Antolini. As part of this course, we will provide information on how we support public engagement across the University. |

This class is intended to help research students in the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences to develop their skills in reading German documents they need to deal with in their research. Each session will be divided into two parts: The first part will consist of grammar, tasks to develop insight into the reading process, help with dealing with complex sentence structures, academic conventions, abbreviations, etc. The second part will be devoted to the translation of original German texts from different periods and covering a range of topics. Each week you will be asked to attempt a translation into English of a German passage. Students will be encouraged to bring along German texts from their own research to translate. In these sessions we will focus on a different episode from the wonderful Squiggly Careers Amazing If podcasts, which includes over 300 episodes on career based topics ranging from coaching and confidence, to strength and values. Before each session you will be sent a link to a podcast episode to listen to and reflect upon. During the session you will be led through a selection of tasks/exercises recommended in the episode Pod Sheet. You will have the opportunity to work on these individually and then reflect back as a group. Session 8: How to cage your confidence gremlins In this episode podcast hosts talk about common gremlins that can mean we stall or get stuck in our careers and some of the ‘foods’ (people, past, and places) that grow our gremlins. They share 3 ideas for how you can cage your gremlins so you can explore your potential and possibilities in a squiggly career. |

Our online retreats give you time, peace, and space to think and write. Each session will provide a friendly and constructive environment in which to meet like-minded peers, discuss challenges, and work in a focused way using the Pomodoro technique. These virtual retreats are being hosted collaboratively across several institutions to encourage researchers across career stages and institutions to come together in a sustainable writing environment. The retreats will take place several times per month throughout the academic year and you can attend as many as you like (within booking limits for each session). Designing Conference Posters

Conference posters are a simple, visual, and effective way of sharing your research. They may be presented at academic or professional conferences, Departmental events, or educational events for the general public. A well-designed poster allows you to communicate information about your work in a concise and appealing manner, and engage with colleagues, peers and others in a conversational setting. Creating a conference poster is a balancing act between including enough detail to effectively describe your work, and keeping it visually attractive and minimal enough that people can understand at least the main points at a glance. This module will help you create effective conference posters and introduce key design principles. |

Publishing a protocol -- stating in advance the search strategy, inclusion and exclusion criteria, data analysis and other evaluative techniques -- is a core requirement for conducting a systematic review. The process of writing this protocol will also mean you have written in advance a large chunk of what will need to go into the finished systematic review, saving you a huge amount of time. This session will cover the contents and types of information you will need to provide in your protocol, and will give attendees the opportunity to write a draft protocol, as well as highlighting helpful resources and further support. UPDATE: Please note that this session is taking place remotely, not in the Medical Library as previously advertised. Please do not go to the Medical Library training room. They offer linguistic tools that will enable students to comprehend complex texts and produce critical readings and interpretations. The classes are going to be conducted primarily in English, even though there will be plenty of opportunity for oral and listening practice. The courses feature a listening and speaking component as to prepare student to conduct field work in Portuguese. The Basic course does not require any knowledge of the language while the prerequisite for the Intermediate course is a CEFR A2 level. The courses offer the possibility of progression and Basic students are strongly encouraged to continue with the Intermediate course. Please note that these courses are attended by a number of very able, Spanish speaking students of Latin American studies and that the class dynamics are likely to be fast paced. For the rest of the students this might be challenging but also very rewarding and conducive to sound progress. The courses will start from a Basic level and will aim at:
