A series of 30 minute drop-in sessions to talk with one of the Continuous Improvement team. We offer expert, impartial advice relating all things process improvement and want to support our colleagues on their own continuous improvement journeys.

Please note, these sessions are informal, 1-2-1 meetings where colleagues can ask for advice and guidance from the team. These are not workshops or taught sessions.

The team will be available 9-10 and 4-5 every Tuesday and Friday - each hour can be split into two sessions of 30 minutes depending on demand.

This course covers viewing, processing and recording data for applications, adding notes and attachments, generating rejection emails, generating electronic reference requests, processing applicants through the selection process and transferring successful applicants to CHRIS. The system used is Web Recruitment.

How to make a group booking with Key Travel new [Places] 09:30 - 10:30 Via MS Teams

How to make a group booking with Key Travel - Organising group travel for research or to undertake work on behalf of the University.

This training session, delivered by Key Travel, is open to new and experienced colleagues who are responsible for booking group travel (10 passengers or more) on behalf of the University. Key Travel’s Specialist Travel team will take you through the process of group bookings including:

  • What is group travel?
  • How to make a group booking with Key Travel (what information is required)
  • Services available
  • Benefits of booking with Key Travel

The primary purpose of the training session will be to walk you through the booking process, however, there will also be opportunities to ask questions and explore the services provided.

Linear mixed effects models (IN-PERSON) (2 of 2) [Full] 09:30 - 17:00 Bioinformatics Training Room, Craik-Marshall Building

This course gives an introduction to linear mixed effects models, also called multi-level models or hierarchical models, for the purposes of using them in your own research or studies.

We emphasise the practical skills and key concepts needed to work with these models, using applied examples and real datasets.

After completing the course, you should have:

  • A conceptual understanding of what mixed effects models are, and when they should be used
  • Familiarity with fitting and interpreting mixed effects models using the lme4 package in R

Please note that this course builds on knowledge of linear modelling, therefore should not be considered a general introduction to statistical modelling.

Mental Health Awareness: Senior Leadership Programme new [Places] 14:00 - 17:00 Churchill College, Sixties Room

This 3-hour session is a bespoke programme for staff in senior leadership roles at the University and Colleges on the topic of mental health and wellbeing in their workplace and the educational context.

The session offers:

  • An opportunity for senior leaders to support a whole institution approach to mental health and wellbeing, promoting an informed and compassionate higher education community which is conducive to wellbeing and supports the full academic, occupational, and social potential of all staff and students.
  • A brief overview of staff and student mental health in Higher Education.
  • Best practice guidance on identifying and responding to staff and students who may be experiencing mental health difficulties.
  • Context-specific case vignettes and scenarios to improve staff confidence in intervening and applying skills in discussions with staff and students, including those who may be experiencing poor wellbeing, mental ill-health and thoughts of suicide.
  • Evidence-based and practical strategies for promoting wellbeing throughout the higher education community, including self-care for staff.
  • Key resources and services in place to support mental health locally and nationally.

Please note these are stand-alone training sessions and participants should only attend one session.


This training is provided free of charge to College and University staff thanks to a philanthropic donation. The cost of providing the course is £25 per participant.

The Programme offers general language tuition with a focus on communicative competence.

At a basic level, the focus is on every day and real-time, oral/aural communication. Each course features a functional-notional syllabus and grammar points are analysed in context.
