Physics Health & Safety: Physics of Medicine (PoM) Induction BeginnersUpdated
General induction for users of the Physics of Medicine (PoM) building.
The induction includes
- a guided tour of the facility
- an introduction to the Local Rules for the laboratories
- a basic introduction to biological safety & Containment Levels
- awareness of alarm systems and responses including gas and fire alarms for the building
- a description of waste management in the building
- an introduction to biological risk assessment requirements
- information on systems for order deliveries and access to consumables
- routes of access to information and assistance (scientific and support)
Upon completion, a user will have the information necessary to being work in the building with the support of their research group
Participants will gain access to PoM only after successfully completing the Physics H&S Induction - see "Related Courses" below.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Find their way around the building and find equipment they need
- Outline emergency response actions
- Locate biological risk assessments
- Locate chemicals and consumables for their research
- Safely store and dispose of waste materials
- Identify key contacts
To give PoM users enough safety and procedural information to be able to start work/training under supervision by their research group.
