Web Authoring: HTML Introduction (Level 1) BeginnersPrerequisites
This is a practical-based course for people new to writing Web pages. Only the basics of HTML (hypertext markup language) will be covered, but there are other courses for those wishing to extend their knowledge. By the end of the course participants will have created three personal linked web pages.
The course is suitable for anyone who is familiar with at least one Web browser e.g. Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox etc.
- Reminder of the structure of the World Wide Web
- Importance of accessibility and efficiency
- Structure of HTML
- Syntax of tags
- Phrase element tags - <em>,<strong>, ...
- Block element tags - <p>, <ul>, ...
- Links - <a>
- Graphics - <img>
- Uploading your personal web pages to DS-Web
Presentations, demonstrations and practicals
Internet Explorer and Firefox on MCS Windows
- The practical work will be done on PCs unless otherwise specified, although the course is platform independent and therefore suitable also for Mac and Unix users.
- If you would like to take away a copy of the Web page you create, please bring a a USB memory stick. If you can logon to your MCS account, you will have an opportunity to set up your Web pages using DS-Web on that account.
