These virtual retreats are being hosted collaboratively across several institutions to encourage researchers across career stages and institutions to come together in a sustainable writing environment.

The retreats will take place several times per month throughout the academic year and you can attend as many as you like (within booking limits for each session).

Tue 23
Postdoc Academy Workshop: Team Dynamics in Action new [Places] 10:00 - 12:30 Postdoc Centre @ Eddington, Sanders Hall

Because research is a collaborative endeavour, conducted within and across groups, team dynamics can have a big impact on your research output.

In order to achieve your own goals, it can be helpful to understand what factors contribute to the behaviour of a group of colleagues, how you can best navigate these dynamics, and which elements of team dynamics are key to successfully leading a research group. This is your chance to learn and practice!

In this highly interactive workshop, you will experience different aspects of team dynamics through a series of situation-based activities. Each activity will be followed by reflection and discussion so that you can make connections with your own professional experience.

This workshop will give you the opportunity to:

  • understand the diversity of perspectives and why groups behave they way they do
  • identify points of convergence and divergence between your own and others’ interest
  • be a better team player
  • become a better team leader

We recommend also attending our workshop on group dynamics and effective teams as this session will provide a great opportunity to practice what you have learned there.

  • learn to apply a well-established goal-setting technique (SMART goals) that will support you in realising your career aspirations
  • have the opportunity to discuss and develop your long- and short-term goals with support from your peers
  • acquire strategies for holding yourself accountable.

By the end of this session, you should have developed at least one goal that will lead to progress within your overall career plan and strategies for holding yourself accountable.

The session will give you protected time, space and support to develop your goals.
